Kitchen Update Two

A lot of progress on the kitchen this week. Even though we are still waiting on the install, the cabinets, drawers and doors were painted white. Additionally, we’ve ordered slides and hinges from a local cabinet company to be installed next week. Stove and convection oven are on the way along with a new vent hood. I think it’s coming along nicely.

We had a weird little trapped area in the corner because of the location of the fridge. We’ve switched the upper cabinets to move the refrigerator over to the edge. We will add a new lower cabinet later.

The island painted white. The flooring will be our next project.

Kitchen Update

Good morning! I wanted to give you a little update on our kitchen. I’ve been showing master bedroom and ensuite bathroom updates, and thought it would be fun to show you another room in our house–our kitchen.

Kitchen before

Kitchen before

Our kitchen before was nice and airy, but it was painted a terrible old dank yellow with crusted wall paper with strawberries. Don’t get me wrong, I love strawberries, but this was a bit much. Plus, the cabinets were a dark wood, which would have been okay except they were worn down in places from all the use. We replaced the refrigerator almost immediately and hired painters to come in and paint the walls a light green before the holidays. This week we hired the painters back to re-do our cabinets. Check out our prep photos below and let me know what you think.

Extra Monthly Income January 2015

January 2015 Extra Income Report

How I earned extra income in January 2015

I first have to say, I hate debt! I hate it with a passion! I’ve worked very hard to pay off the stupid mistakes of my younger years of using credit cards and debt for everything! But, this time last year I found myself needing a new car (or a used new car to me car). So I found one that I fell in love with and is extremely reliable. Traded in my old hunk of junk and financed a pre-owned car. Now I’m being very aggressive to get the car paid off early. In fact, my goal is to have it paid in full by the end of 2015, three years early.

To accomplish this early pay off, my goal is to earn an extra $7,000 in extra income for 2015. A lot of the extra income comes from online sources like Etsy and Ebay. Below is a list of my income sources for this month.

Vintage items on Ebay: $59.00: I finally sold a huge vintage tray for $50 and vintage napkins for $9.00.

Vintage items at my Vintage Etsy Shop $31.00: I sold two vintage scarves. I actually list the same items on Ebay and Etsy.

Wal-Mart Savings Catcher: $21.00: We recently moved to Colorado and live near a VERY nice Wal-Mart. I use the Wal-Mart Savings Catcher each time we shop. I earned $21.00 back through the iPhone app. I cashed it out for a Wal-Mart gift card and then took the money budgeted for food and paid the income toward the car loan.

Public Relations Services $218.00: Finally, I sell public relations services and consulting on another Etsy Shop to help Etsy sellers with their online shops. I had 12 sales this past month.

My goal for February is to sell more on my Etsy shops, go vintage shopping at thrift stores, garage sales and estate sales to add more merchandise, find work on elance and guru.

A Year of Lovely Finishes 2015-Update

This is sort of a long, odd story. With the move, I couldn’t find my sewing machine. The husband and I looked EVERYWHERE. Or at least we thought we did. After going through every possible box, and with it still not turning up, I ordered a new machine from Amazon. Within 24 hours we found my sewing machine in a window…behind a curtain. However, I didn’t cancel the new sewing machine…it’s too fancy and computerized and has more than 100 stitches and threads easy and…! With my new machine hooked up and ready to go, I was able to accomplish a little bit more on my Arkansas Crossroads quilt. Here is an image of my progress. GOAL: get the quilt top done by the end of January with A Lovely Year of Finishes 2015.

Onions Delight

I’m reblogging this to save this scrumptious recipe!

The Art Of Monteque

Onion Soup Onion Soup

Frost outside this morning and all the critter water is frozen.

 Time to bust some water.
But the winter green’s look so good!
The turnips are sweeter and the collard greens are thriving. And oh my the kale is huge! Time to make kale chips. If you haven’t tried this it is easy and tasty. Lets go back to the onion.
Did you ever think why the 1015 Texas sweet is called the 1015? Well, it started at Texas A&M University with a faculty member by the name of Dr. Leonard Pike. Who has the singular distinction of developing a sweet onion that was soon to become famous. The Texas Sweet 1015. And the name 1015 is the exact date the grower has to plant this specific onion. There were other names tried but that name stuck and is still one of the Lone Star…

A Lovely Year of Finishes

So, it’s 2015 and what can I say, but it’s time to set some goals. Sure, I have the regular eat right, exercise goals…but there’s more. I REALLY want to finish my quilt. AND I really want to get great at quilting. AND I want to make connections doing it. By happenstance I ran across this great idea to keep me motivated. My goal for January will be to finish the top of my Arkansas Crossroad quilt inspired by Fussy Cut.

Here’s where I am…
